2016-2017 Season

Fauré String Trio

The Fauré String Trio, founded in 2003, has had the honor of premiering new compositions such as “String Trio” by David Stock, “Before we breath a little further” by Justin Rubin, “Playtime 1” and “Playtime 2” by Aurelio Scotto, and “Oil in Canvas” by Giorgio Mirto. Two Italian composers have dedicated their works to the Fauré String Trio: Giorgio Mirto and Aurelio Scotto. In 2009 the trio organized an “All Mirto Project”; Giorgio Mirto himself traveled from Italy to the United States to work directly with the trio for the performance of two of his pieces, including the piece dedicated to the FST, and a quintet for guitar and strings.

Recently, the Italian composer Mauro Montalbetti contacted the trio for them to work on his new composition for string trio entitled “Six Bagatelles.” The music was issued and sent to the trio directly by the RAI (Italian Radio and Television).

Besides classical and contemporary repertoire, the trio covers a wide range of popular music, most of which is arranged by the trio members. This repertoire includes film music, tangos, and ragtime. New arrangements include Moon River, Cinema Paradiso, O Sole Mio and Por Una Cabeza.

The FST has been invited to the Chamber Music Series of Greater Johnstown, New Music Festival organized by the School of Music at the University of Minnesota, Semanas Musicales de Frutillar version 42 in Chile, Sanctuary Music Series, and the Summer Music Series at Metamorphosis Center.
Each year in July, the Faure String Trio hold a chamber music camp where they teach children of different musical levels the art of playing together and learning new music as well as an orchestral workshop.

The members are violinist Jennifer Fauré from the USA, also the Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (PYPO); violist Raul Fauré from Chile, a member of the Litton String Quartet at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). They are all graduates with master’s degrees in music performance from Duquesne University.

Currently the trio streams their concerts live to the world via the Internet, and enjoys donating their time to help with benefit concerts. Please see www.faurestringtrio.com.
